Who are  we ?

Folk art group 'De Akkermennekes', located in Heusden-Zolder, was founded in 1971 en is a member of the Limburg Folk Art Groups and the Cultural Board of Heusden-Zolder.

The name was derived from the wagtail, which in the regional language is called an 'AKKERMENNEKE'.  It is a little bird which dances across the fields an is constantly in motion.

The group's main goal is to be active in the gathering of information about old customs,  dances and music, preserving it and making it accessible to the larger audience.  By integrating this information in their performances, the Akkermennekes wish to bridge the gap between past and future.
